Exotic Woods of Raby Castle

This site is the product of a research project concerned with the exotic materials used to make key pieces of furniture in the collection at Raby Castle, conducted in conjunction with the Furniture History Society. Research has included the trading history of different wood materials and when such materials were first imported into Britain. Further, through researching individual items, the project has investigated how various makers used wood materials and what their inclusion discloses about the collection and collectors.
